Another day closer…

July 1st, 2009

Yep, our vacation is one day closer than it was today.. Hehe.. Not like I’m counting it down or nothing.. Had a good day today.. Went and got our tags, cleaned up the Expedition really well so it’ll be ready, got new tires and I’m packed.. Matter of fact, I was packed SO well, I even packed my clothes for the next few days! Lol.. Goofy.. All I have left for tomorrow is getting the oil changed and finishing my last class.. I can’t wait.. Then tomorrow will be over and it’ll be Friday.. I sure hope our vacation doesn’t go that fast but I know it will..  We’ll sure have fun though!!

After these past few days, I’ve decided to start my side job back up as needed.  I use to detail cars, all by hand by the way, and my business was called:  ADD-Andy Dandy Detail.. (Thanks to my wife.)  When the drought hit 2 years ago, I had to stop doing it because I was using our water and everyone lived close to town.  Now, all I need IS water and I can bring all the stuff to your home if needed.  I enjoy it even though it takes me a while, I’m very particular in what I do and how I do it; meaning if you’re not satisfied, I’ll knock off $15 AND correct what you don’t like.  I guess you could say I’m almost TOO particular to be doing detailing work.. I mean, I love it and I do it on the side for pleasure believe it or not.. I love taking something that’s kinda dirty and needs some work-making it shine and look awesome!! Next week I’ll post pictures of the one I did on Tuesday and you’ll see a dramatic difference.. THAT makes me smile..

What do you like doing in your spare time? Whether or not it’s making money or not, is there something you like to do which releases stress, steam, or just brings you pleasure? ADD is mine, I’d love to hear yours!!

The Excitement

July 1st, 2009

is building!! I’m SO ready for our family-first annual and hope to be a tradition each year. We’re going to Savannah and Tybee Island just to chill, relax and spend some time at the beach as a family.  I love Family and I’m a huge advocate as well because I feel it’s important.  Jayden is 3 and we’ve discussed another one in the future-say 2 years maybe?? We’re in the discussion stage though so we’ll see what happens.  I guess you could say this may be the last blog for a week or so and then again, may not.. I plan to take one of the computers on our trip, we have free wi-fi and I may need it if my SD card gets full to transfer pictures.  Who knows, if you know me, hehehe, I’d take both.. :)

So I guess I’ll leave you with this for the next few weeks.  I worked on a vehicle yesterday, cleaned it up, polished and waxed.  It was a tough job but once I was finished, I was excited!  There is a drastic change from what it looked like before I started and what it looks like now.  (I’ll post pictures next week.) Here’s the thing, every now and then we need a cleaning-spiritually.  See, the truck cleaned up well but I’ve cleaned some that didn’t come out looking so good; better, but not good.  When I owned my own detailing business, ADD (Andy Dandy Detail-thanks to my wife) I welcomed the challenge of cleaning up vehicles and making them look better than what they did before.  Some takes more work than others, some have areas which can or can’t be cleaned, some need some more extensive exterior work and interior work, but for the most part, they’ve all looked well once they leave.  All of this said, sometimes we have the interior scars which can’t be removed but can serve as a reminder to the owner.  It can remind us what to do and not to do-but it gives us the character of who we are.  It just depends on how you treat it and what you do with it.  Some of us are in the exterior part-we need to clean up some external things. The longer it takes, the harder it is to get off or remove.  For example, the hood on this vehicle had to polished 3 times AND waxed 3 times just for the hood to have that shine and “smooth” effect.  Maybe more I don’t remember, but it took some work.  The longer it takes for you to remove the external “things” from your life, the harder it is to remove.  Meaning, the things you do, say and how you act in certain situations, can eventually become your character and making it hard to be removed.

Question:  Are there any “things” you need to remove internally?  What about externally?  Only you can be honest with yourself and know-just don’t cover it up and hope it goes away because if you do, it becomes a “scar” or spot which is forever there.  Go ahead and see what you need to clean up in your life, maybe it’s something small or big.  Give it to Christ, he’ll go in and clean better than anyone ever can and He’ll get in places you never knew you had “spots.”

Wow

June 29th, 2009

That’s about all I can say when I look at these parents, kids and friends. At the mall you can see whatever you want so to speak but one thing really stands out and that’s how these young girls and young adults are dressing these days. Omg as the young ones would say. For real, if you have to sit in an upright position so your shorts won’t go north-they ARE too short! If you continually walk and pull them down, they ARE too short!! If you can’t sit in a chair the right way in fear of your undergarments may show, they ARE too short!!
Come on, and we wonder where our “girls and guys” get their ideas from, why teeneage pregnancy is on the rise and why girls don’t get respect-your clothes! My daddy still tells me: “son, if you dress like one, act like one, whether or not you are-they’ll still treat you like one-regardless.”. I understand if you have a tall daughter but this isn’t about that-Jaydens shorts have more material than some of these girls! Parents-are there any?? You don’t want your daughter to be perceived like a promiscuous lady, so why are they dressing like one?? Yea it’s a free country and all but like I said-if ya dress like one, there are some guys/gals that will treat you like one.
I don’t mean to vent like this but I think it’s time parents become parent a again an children become children. Parents can tell their child what to wear and it can still be cool-just not to revealing. Know what your child is wearing, listening to, watching, reading and especially who their friends are. Expose them to God instead of 7 hours of MTV! Show them how to act like respectful young ladies and young gentlemen. Praise them when they do something right, discpline and uplift them when they make a mistake and above all, show them the love of God through your example-love them.
Ok, I’m done-I’ll be back later to blog about something positive and upbeat. Hehe

This week

June 26th, 2009

has been a pretty stressful week as far as the entertainment world.  Ed, Michael, and Farrah all icons during their time and no longer with us.  I was flipping through the channels and happen upon a bunch of people crying-some uncontrolably, some just crying and others in shock.  What made it worse for me, was the fact noone mentioned spirituality in all the people we lost.  See, you can have all the money, gold and riches in the world, you can be an “icon” and set standards so high it’s years before someone can break it, but it all boils down to your salvation.  Their salvation is between them and God but honestly, I want that to be the FIRST thing they say about me.  “Andy was a Christian guy, not perfect, but he loved God, family and his friends. He tried to do the right things in his life but he always tried to serve God the best he could.”  We look up to these people and become inthralled into their life, their being and become wrapped up in all it’s glory.  There’s nothing wrong with that to a certain extent and these people who passed made great contributions to society-they did great things.  (I’m not taking anything away from what they’ve done-MJ changed the musical industry forever, FF was an overall great actor who dedicated her life to stopping Domestic Violence and EM-he was a great host and entertainer.)  What i’m saying is this: I hope these people had salvation or all they’ve done is in vain.  Christ says there’s only one way to God and that’s through His Son, Jesus Christ.  We must Admit we’re sinners, Believe in Him in our hearts, and Confess our sins and ask for forgiveness.  The price has been paid, all we have to do is accept it.  I hate to admit it, but hearing some people last night speak, there are those who are under the impression because of what these people done, THAT is what’s getting them into Heaven but that’s the furtherest from the truth; Jesus Christ is THE ONLY way to Heaven and you must have his grace and salvation.  I hope you believe in Jesus Christ and you have a heart knowledge of Him-not just a head knowledge.  What do you think-is there another way to Heaven and to receive Salvation?

Reunion….

June 24th, 2009

Yep, a friend of mine along with a few others and myself, have put together a reunion of our graduating class.. 1993.. I know it’s not the normal reunion but we wanted to see everyone and how they’ve changed.  It’s exciting to see people and find out what they’ve been up too.  Some people I’ve heard have changed drastically, a little and some not at all.  In other words, some people are the same after 16 years or have changed very little.. To me, I don’t know if I’d like that; to look back and notice I’m in the same place or have moved very little.  It just seems so bland or like you have no desire to improve yourself and you’re settling for what you have. Who wants to do that??

Well, that’s just like our relationship with Christ-who wants to stay the same?  Christ wants us to mature more in our walk with Him through Prayer, Reading the Bible and just spending time with Him daily.  He wants us to grow in Christ, become mature and better  yourself in Christ.  In other words, when you look back on your life, will you see yourself in the “same” place you are now or have you moved on??  Are you the same place financially, in your marriage or job, better yet, spiritually?  Will you be closer to God in 2, 3, 10, 15 years or will you still be doing the “same” ole thing, with the same ole attitude and in the same ole way??  It’s up to you… You can be like those people who remained the “same” since HS 16 years ago OR you can move on in your life, growing and walking with Christ in a way which will cause maturity.  It’s up to you-what is your decision..

has been great so far!!  Rhonda is doing an excellent job with the songs and interacting with the kids, Sam is having fun and doing great with the games, the arts/crafts ( Dexter Baptist helpers) and the refreshments are awesome! Teachers: You guys rock because we’ve combined a few classes and you’ve taken on a few more of different age groups.. (Mandi-boys are different aren’t they?? Lol.. j/k) Everyone is doing such an excellent job and without you, this couldn’t have been a fantastic time! The kids are having fun and even the adults are leaving hot, tired and sweaty!! (Thanks to Sam and his games.. they rock!) If you’re reading this and you haven’t been there yet, come on out tonight and tomorrow. Tomorrow night is just a small program showcasing what everyone has learned-exciting times!! God has really showed up this week and I’m so excited about our BBC.   Come on out and see what all the hype is……that is, if you DARE!!!

Today

June 21st, 2009

was good.. Worship ROCKED this morning and Sam was right on!! We had some guests, they were into Worship and we’re excited about our BackYard Bible School!! It starts tomorrow and runs through Thursday, 6:30-8:00, and ends with a program on Thursday night.. We can’t wait and I know the community can’t as well.

This weekend was pretty good.  My wife and son surprised me Saturday with a LCD 40 inch screen T.V. That was awesome and I didn’t even know she was saving up for it! I guess all those times she said no, that was what she was doing.. I love that woman-she’s as tricky as I am for the most part.. of course she is getting better at it.. :)

Jayden and I went to Alabama to see my dad on Friday and returned on Saturday. We had a good trip, played in the yard and branch, and just relaxed for the most part. My sister and I cooked my dad a steak, bake potato, fried squash and salad Lunch.. It was great-wished Kim and Lee could have joined-it would have been complete.  We still had fun talking and just hanging out together..  I hope you had a great Father’s Day!!

This week

June 18th, 2009

has been pretty good.  Little sore from all the work I’ve been doing; washing 3 cars, cleaning carpets, painting over the last couple of days-mostly the pain comes from touching up, but that’s ok… I WILL SURVIVVVVVEEEEE… hehe

I was speaking with a classmate Tuesday night during class and really heard what most people say or think about church. This individual was unhappy with her church because she wasn’t “getting” anything from it.. She stated it was more geared towards those who had some kind of “status,” people in BMW’s, Mercedes, Lexus etc etc… She said the preacher is boring and the music is ok-however if you praise the Lord too much, you might be “looked” at.  So the questions pursued to find out more and to speak with her concerning this situation.  What we found out?? She’s content and comfortable right where she is, unwilling to make a change because that would disrupt her system.  She’s “fine” but she doesn’t like it because it’s boring.. Some people live their life unhappy, unsure but refuse to make any changes.

Aren’t we all like that?? Sometimes in our life, there’s things we are content with, comfortable-but to change would disrupt everything we’re use to.  It may be in a marriage, finances, lifestyle, our words, thoughts etc..  I think that’s the way some people treat Christ more than others, just content where they are, serving and coming at their conveinence.  I’m so thankful God doesn’t treat us the way we treat Him-Casually..  Are you treating God casually or are there some changes you need to make?  They won’t be easy, cool or comfortable but God didn’t say it would be.  God did something for us that wasn’t easy, cool, nor was it very comfortable, but He gave his ONLY SON to us so we would have salvation, forgiveness and Grace.  Our sins have been paid for and salvation is awaiting-we just have to accept it.  I guess you could say it wouldn’t hurt for us to do our best to try and do the same for Him, but obviously on a smaller scale.  It’s not something that happens over night, we have to work and die to it daily.  We can do it, but we have to take a self-inventory and make the adjustments under God’s guidance. Whatcha think-do-able??

Another thought….

June 15th, 2009

Well, I can’t disappoint because as I told you before, ANYTHING can be turned into a sermon so to speak.. Lol.. This one came to me while I was cleaning the carpet and it goes along with our walk with Christ.

We had to clean our carpet because let’s just say our son had an “accident” this morning before our podcast. So, we had to rent a carpet cleaner at your local Kroger so we could make sure we got it all.  As I was cleaning the carpet, I noticed some spots were tougher than others to remove and some quite frankly, wouldn’t come up.  I knew that would be the case because this carpet isn’t laid down right nor was it taken care of.  So, I had to spray some carpet cleaner on it, spend a little time and with some elbow work, some stains finally came out.  Others, well are still there.

That’s kinda like our life you see.  We have things in our life that needs cleaning up, not covered up, cleaned up.  Sometimes we need to step back, take a look at our life and do some cleaning-deep down.  There are some things we can clean up even though it takes a little elbow scrubbing, it’ll come clean.  However, there are some things which require removal and replacement.  Those stains in my carpet aren’t coming out and we’re going to replace it one day but it’ll take time.  Just like the carpet, sometimes we need to replace things in our life with the right thing.  Maybe we’ve struggled with addictions, or we have a hangup or habit, those have to be removed, not cleaned.  Maybe it’s the commitment to your family, church, serving, or doing things we necessarily aren’t comfortable doing, those are things which we can clean up and make adjustments as they occur.  So my question to you is simple:  What are some things you need to “clean” up and what are some things you need to “remove” from your life in order to serve Christ freely and openly?  It’s up to you to be honest and do some cleaning in your life-will you?
